-Wonders of Istanbul-
Expanding the ancient Greek colony of Byzantium by the order of the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great, the imperial city of Constantinople was for nearly a thousand years the last remaining outpost of the Roman (later termed Eastern Roman or Byzantine) Empire. It was finally conquered by the Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II on 29 May 1453, an event sometimes used to mark the end of the Middle Ages. Today, Istanbul is a huge city with several district articles containing sightseeing, restaurant, nightlife and accommodation listings.
Haghia Sophia, and Topkapı museum should take at least three hours. Walking tour is preferably along the road in the back of the Haghia Sophia, where there are some nicely restored houses. Then on to the Blue Mosque and the square with the obelisks on it (At Meydani). Along its side is the very good Museum of Islam Art. Descend slightly and find the small Haghia Sophia with its nice garden. Then uphill to the Sokollu Mehmet mosque complex, with top notch tiles inside.
